Capital Campaign
United Methodist Open Door held its capital campaign kickoff luncheon on Feb. 11, 2009 at Hinkle Elkouri Law Firm. The $7.4 campaign will raise funds for a resource referral center and food distribution center.
Former Senator Nancy Kassebaum Baker and Gov. Kathleen Sebelius spoke at the event and helped launch the campaign before about 100 supporters. The agency has already raised more than $1 million of the total. Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. presented a check for $300,000 for the project.
Other project contributors include Intrust Bank, the campaign steering committee and community foundations. McCluggage Van Sickle & Perry has been named as the architect for the project.

Volunteering
Our Coordinator of Volunteers can find just the right niche for volunteering, whether it be sorting or sacking groceries or answering the telephone in the Community Food Ministry, packing commodity boxes in the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, sorting clothing and helping people shop in the Klothes Kloset, preparing meals for the homeless at the Drop-In Center, or working on one of the several Transitional Housing homes.
Opportunities abound for individuals, families, groups, students needing community hours for school, Eagle Scout projects. Volunteers are scheduled on a one-time basis, monthly, weekly, daily, or whatever best fits in with their life.
